What is Bow Lace? The Complete Guide to Lace for Hair Bows
What is “Bow Lace?”
Bow lace is decorative lace trim designed specifically with hair bows in mind. Created in bow-friendly widths with beautiful finished edges, it can be tied, folded, layered, and styled into a bow just like other traditional bow-making materials. And while it may be designed with bow makers in mind, its uses don’t stop there—bow lace can also add texture and detail to home décor, sewing projects, accessories, and all kinds of creative crafts.
At The Bows and the Bees, our bow lace is custom embroidered and designed to turn the lace itself into something special. From delicate florals and intricate embroidery to playful seasonal and novelty designs, bow lace is an easy way to elevate a bow with beautiful texture, detail, and dimension.
Why Bow Makers Love Bow Lace
Bow lace can completely change the look of a familiar bow style. The embroidery, texture, and decorative edges add detail that would be difficult to achieve with traditional bow-making materials alone.
It can be used on its own to create a statement bow, layered with other materials, paired with coordinating solids or prints, or used as an accent within a larger design. One piece of bow lace can be styled completely differently depending on the maker using it—which is one of our favorite things about seeing what our customers create.

The Bow Lace That Started a Trend
Our Cotton Candy Rainbow Bow Lace became one of our most-loved designs—and one that helped shape so much of what came next.
This design features our signature embroidered eyelet edge, a detail that has become a recognizable part of The Bows and the Bees bow lace. Fun fact: Cotton Candy Rainbow was our first bow lace to feature the design in multiple colors, and it quickly became a customer favorite.
But we can’t take all the credit for what happened next. Our customers took this lace and ran with it, creating incredible bows and inspiring new ways to use colorful embroidered bow lace. It’s one of those designs that truly came to life in the hands of the makers who used it—and we’re still seeing its influence today.
